Notifications

Pond posts a macOS notification only when an agent needs you, stops with an error, or finishes while you are not looking. Notifications is the one macOS permission Pond.app asks for, and it asks the first time an agent needs you.

The three kinds

KindWhenBody
Needs youClaude Code waits for an answer, a permission, or a folder trust question"Needs you", or a short reason
ErrorThe agent stopped with an errorthe agent's state line
FinishedA turn ended"Finished"

The title is the agent's title, taken from its branch or worktree. The body is one plain line. Pond never puts task text, prompts or terminal output in a notification.

Where your eyes are

Pond decides from window state where your attention is:

  • Watching: the agent's terminal is in front of you. No notification is posted, and an older one for that agent is withdrawn.
  • On screen: the agent's blob is visible and not covered. A needs-you waits 60 seconds before it is posted, since you may see the blob first. A finish waits, and is posted only if you look away.
  • Away: the notification is posted at once.

A finish older than 10 minutes is dropped, because a late "Finished" is noise.

No pile-ups

Each notification's identifier is per agent and kind. A newer note about the same agent replaces the older one. When the agent's state changes, the old note is withdrawn. When notifications are turned off, the ones already shown are withdrawn.

No timers

The planner is a pure function of the agents' state. It runs when state changes. The only timer is a one-shot for the next needs-you that comes due.

Pond is not released yet. These docs describe the current build.
