Updates

Once a day Pond asks pond.codes whether a newer version exists. It never downloads or installs anything by itself.

What the check does

Pond makes a plain request for https://pond.codes/latest.json.

  • The request carries no ID, no Pond version, no account and no cookies.
  • Pond refuses redirects.
  • The file is signed, and Pond checks the signature before it trusts it.
  • The server sees your IP address, as with any request.

If a newer version is listed, the sidebar shows one grey line with links. You download and install the new version yourself.

Turn it off

Settings › Help › Check for updates turns the daily request off. Check now asks once.

Some builds have no update key. In those, Check now says "Update checks are not set up in this build." and Pond makes no request.

Pond is not released yet. These docs describe the current build.
